This is to repost a Facebook note that provides some context that’s been sadly lacking in many articles and comments about the January 25, 2015 Mamasapano, Maguindanao clash. It would be unrealistic to expect people not to be emotional about the horrific incident. But fanning the flames by calling for all-out war and throwing insults to all Muslims is the wrong way to go.
Emotions need to be tempered with reason especially at this delicate and trying time. When we talk about injustice, we have to make sure that we are zeroing on root causes including why there’s a protracted war going on in the first place. We may be divided by beliefs and religion, but we are all brothers and sisters in this nation.
